Christmas Traditions

We love family Traditions! Especially at Christmas time. Each year, we try to plan some "christmas-y" things to do. Not only does it give us time to be together as a family, but it helps us to remember the reason for the season. This year, we did manage to set aside some time to repeat some activities that have become Urses/Pettit Family traditions. We kicked off the season with a carriage ride around temple square to see all the bright, twinkling lights. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Red Rock before our ride, although London dined on smuggled in McDonald's chicken nuggets. The temperature was a balmy 20 degrees, but we were quite toasty snuggled down in nice warm blankets. They didn't even smell like horse!
HOUSE BUILDINGUsually each year, we build and decorate a gingerbread house. This year, we thought we might shake it up and build "rice krispy" houses. It was boys against the girls. . .of course. . .
The girls won!! It helped that the most influential judge was on the girls team. Thank you, Judge London.

SNOW SHOEING

With London getting older, we added an activity. . .snow shoeing. What fun! And yes, I mean it. The first five minutes made the whole trip worth while. "Come on everybody!" as she headed up the trail. Ashley, Brandon, London, Kurt and I (and Jack) walked up Guardsman Pass Road. The pace was slow, but we increased in elevation quite quickly. Pretty soon, we were looking down on the houses on the hill that we started out looking up at. It was a beautiful view.Once London had enough of the walking, she enjoyed riding. Jack, Kurt and Brandon took turns pulling her. As you can see, she collected snowballs as we went. . .at least until her gloves were wringing wet, then she borrowed grandma's gloves. They were big, but her hands were happy and toasty warm.
Jack had a lot of fun and we didn't come close to tiring him out. Kurt kept throwing snow balls and Jack was determined to find them. He'd dig and dig and dig. . .of course I thought it was mean, but the hoots of laughter said I was wrong! Poor Jack.
Ashley and I stopped and posed for the paparazzi. . .we just HATE that! But at least my coat is blocking most of my face. Yeah!!!
